Grand Street Settlement (GSS): GSS expands opportunities for low-income families and individuals by providing culturally relevant services that support community-building, advocacy, self-determination, and an enriched quality of life. GSS’s settlement house model offers a community-embedded, comprehensive strategy for service provision. It is designed to act, not as an external force, but as the glue that holds a community together. Through its 28 locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, GSS offers a vibrant and supportive community for local older adults and provides services including fall prevention programs (such as Matter of Balance Tai Chi for Arthritis and SAIL programs), as well as senior housing options. Families can also access a wealth of programs that provide resources and strategies for success: high-quality early education and child care programs, safety net support and access to benefits, and hands-on after school and summer learning programs. GSS serves approximately 10,000 total community members (of which 3,000 are older adults).
